on a historical moment

March 9, 2010 § 2 Comments

on march 7, 2010, the 82nd academy awards happened.

AND the first female director ever to win for achievement in direction is KATHRYN BIGELOW!!

so that door has been hammered down by this amazing lady.  congratulations to her and to those who created the hurt locker, for nine oscar nominations and six wins (including best picture and best original screenplay).  a clean sweep of worthy awards for a very worthy film.

on the red carpet:

  • quite sad that james cameron couldn’t receive any awards. not sure if hurt locker was that good to be honored like this. there were way better films like inglorious bastards and avatar, even up in the air!

  • angie says:

it’s good to keep in mind that the academy (made up primarily of old people) doesn’t necessarily award the “best movie of the year”, but the one they like the most. and with movies i find it so difficult to use words like “better” or “best”, it’s such a subjective thing.. it’s probably healthier to think of any award given as a political, rather than artistic move. there was this really interesting article, where did i put it…

-> pretty interesting, apparently why ‘hurt locker’ beat ‘avatar’.. thanks for commenting :)
